Will Work from Home: Earn the Cash–Without the Commute

Escape the cube. Ditch the commute. It’s not just a dream anymore.

Many people already spend 12 hours a day getting to work, working, getting home from work. Here’s some good news: thanks to advances in technology, acceptance of outsourcing, the trend towards corporate flextime, and other factors, working from home is easier than ever.

Good Morning America’s Workplace Contributor Tory Johnson and consumer advocate Robyn Freedman Spizman tell readers exactly how to turn today’s cultural change to their advantage without giving up an income. Specific business plans will teach them how to:
• Take their current position home
• Find a new company whose policies will allow them to work from home
• Reseach a product they believe in, and sell it from home
• Start their own business, doing something they love, for a minimal initial investment

With real-life stories, a step-by-step plan, resource guides, and lists of scams to avoid, this is the book that will help readers finally make the leap––and show them that they don’t have to give up their family, creativity, or peace of mind to earn a decent salary.

I’ve already made money from Tory’s awesome advice in two areas: adding
AdSense to my website which brings me money every month and with Alpine
Access, which I loooove. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make some money at home.

Tory Johnson, the CEO and founder of Women for Hire, and a frequent contributor to several television shows, including Good Morning America, shows you how to make a good living working from your own home. Whether you want to take your current position out of the office, or create a business on your own, this is a practical guide to making it happen.

You get the benefit of her enormous experience, in an easy to read, well organized book. She includes real life examples of people who have succeeded in taking their work home. The book lists many resources, and also explains scams to be wary of. There are a lot of scams out there, as the unscrupulous try to capitalize on this popular trend.

Johnson has provided good guidance to many on succeeding in their careers, and starting their own businesses. She has done it herself, and she knows what she is talking about. If you have ever thought about getting out of the rat race, give this book a try. You will be glad that you did.

The book was not really what I expected. I read it but it was not all about working from home and some of the sites she recommends cost money to sign up for although she states in the book you should never have to pay a fee. It was okay but I would have rather checked it out from a library or borrowed rather then waste my hard earned money on it. Most of the sites she gave I am already aware of.

I just wanted to tell you thank you for writing your book “How to Start a Home-Based Catering Business.” I lost my job this past January and have been struggling like everyone else in this economy. Part of my challenge is that I want to do something entirely different from what I’ve done before, so I’ve been reading about various types of businesses when I came across your book. I have to say that it is wonderfully well written, chock full of great and practical information, and truly inspiring.

I’ve been doing odd jobs to keep kibble in the bowls and had the opportunity to coordinate a little fund-raiser event (20 people) in Brentwood a couple weekends ago for a friend who is running for office. Looking back on it now, I can say that when everything was set up and ready to go a half-hour before the guests arrived, it gave me a great deal of satisfaction. However, now that I’ve read your book (am actually on the second reading with lots of sticky notes!), I’m inspired to think about this as a real business, including the idea of going to cooking school (at age 55!).

Valuable Resource Time After Time, July 8, 2011

I’ve used How To Start A Home-Based Catering Business as a resource
for the past three years. As a culinary professional, I’ve referenced
it at every turn as I grow my business. I never read the title
thinking I would run my food business out of my home, mostly because I
already knew that I couldn’t cook commercially from my home kitchen
due to state law. The term “home-based” to me meant that I would run
my own business as an entrepreneur, keep my own books, do my own
marketing, etc…not that I would physically cook in my kitchen. This
is the most user-friendly and informative book I’ve found on catering,
and for me and my success, it’s been priceless!

I was very excited about getting this book after reading the other reviews and the books title. But, the title is VERY misleading. After just a couple of pages in you read how it’s against the law to cook food at home for sale. The whole premise of the book is how to SET UP AN OFFICE AT HOME for your off-site catering business!
    Very dissapointing!
With that being said… The information provided for setting up your office, marketing etc… Is very good, but it’s not what the title promices.
