Self Motivation
Description: A lot of people I know (myself included) seem to lack self-motivation. A few people I know have it. I pose the question: What makes people self-motivated? Is it something you’re born with, or can it be changed? In particular I’d be interested in hearing what Tom (username tlg847) has to say since he has experience as a professional psychologist. Hey, I know EXACTLY how you feel, it is very refreshing to find someone who thinks like this. I spent my whole like wanting to do many things, I’ve part-learned three languages, I’ve part-written five movie scripts, I’ve conceptualised a novel, I’ve taken up four different martial arts. Just think how amazing a person I’d be if I weren’t so bloody lazy! I spent three days in bed over the Xmas period because I felt so dep€ressed and de-motivated and useless. I could do lots but instead to nothing
fyi… computers and video games and electronics…. BIGGEST TIME WASTERS IN THE WORLD! it will put you in a state of zombi-ism. First take your health, sleep well, eat well, exercise 10 to 30 mminutes 1 or 2 times per day. Jump up and down on a mini-trampoline for 30 minutes in front of your favorite TV show. Try that first. and don’t forge to feed your mind!! Daily!!!!
What skills or talents do you have? What can you do for work? What kind of training do you have?
lmao, there is one quote that sums up this video. ‘I know I should see a professional about it, and I do plan to’. Don’t worry I am the same, there’s always educational work I need to do, and in some cases even want to do, but I can never bring myself to do it.
I agree self-motivated workers, athletes etc. they all just say go do it. But i think to them it makes sense because they have a different mindset whereas people like us are kinda thinking, yea as if it was that easy. I wonder if unmotivated people lack certain chemical or are just lazy, where as motivated people have too many chemicals or simply enjoy the journey to the goal. great video!
Hi Tom, Let me know if you are interested in conferring about self-motivation. I have special interest in it and have had some success applying various techniques. On Skype I’m PalmyTomo. You aren’t actually ‘lazy’, you just aren’t yet aware of methods that will enable you to focus and motivate yourself more successfully. I assure you I have ways that have worked for me and will work for you. Not a lot of effort involved either, and very good results. Regards, Bruce Thomson, in

There’s nothing like the threat of poverty to motivate you! I am facing exactly that situation now, having been unemployed for a few months, and the very real threat of becoming homeless is keeping me going. It’s amazing how fast you move when you do a calculation to discover that after bills and expenses you will not have enough money to pay the next month’s rent!
Get a whiteboard and a RED marker and do a list in priority of “the tasks of the day!” that need to be done. this helps me no end,I know what exactly how u feel.you wont believe how good it is to cross off each job in the list,it spurs you on to do the next.I know it sound stupid but it may work, you sound like you need it,I noticed your video was made in stages,so you must be very unmotivated lol hope this helps
What you resist, persists.
Do you, if its music, then thats you. Know and faithfully believe that your survival will be taken care off.
Hope things have gotten a lot better for you by now.
Also, i believe all of it is programming. Just like bad habbits we have good habbits. Trust yourself and be you.
I wish you prosperity, manifestation in your desires and good health.
P.s. Meditate; quite your mind and accept everything. Thanks, great video.
Your not alone alot of people lack motivation in some area or another. But I think it helps to understand your problem to see what your dealing with. I would recommend seeing material of Tom Vizzini on youtube. He has some very useful techniques you could apply. And also his development of the 3D Mind.
I’ve been told to watch “Anthony Robbins Awaken the Giant Within” – maybe that would work for you too?
Stress is the key – maybe stress isn’t the most accurate word but it’s what I’ll use right now. Stress – if there was a beautiful woman scheduled to come to your apartment you would clean it up frantically quick! No magic “motivation pill” is needed. You’d just do it. Likewise if you would hungry enough you would procure food, no matter what it takes, again this is stress and it makes you move. I have the same problems as you, unless there is stress I don’t move as fast as I should.
Thanks for the comment! Some days are better than others.
Isn’t that what YouTube is for?
I don’t think you are lazy, i have the same issue too,but they aren’t stable, they seem to come up once two month or something like that. what I have realized during those times is that it comes naturaly(hormons) not by the work or things i have said to my self. to prove my point i visted a doctor recently and was told the same thing. I strongly advise you to consolt with your doctor and fix the issue immediately, don’t give it any time.cause this is your life and your time(there are exceptions)
Would you like some cheese with the whyne?
Something I have come to learn is that motivation (or lack there of) tells us two things. It tells us what we really love if we are motivated in that particular area. Or, it tells us that there is a fundamental problem with what we are having a hard time being motivated about.

this is not an issue of laziness – and by far where you are in life you have proven you are not lazy. I share this same deficit with you very much so. I appreciate your vulnerability in sharing. Thank you

I think you’ve got a good point there. While I personally don’t believe there are any gods because of the lack of scientific evidence, I can certainly see how finding some greater cause than yourself could motivate you. I believe it was the philosopher Daniel Dennett who once said “The secret to happiness is to find something more important than yourself and devote your life to it.” Thanks for the comment!
You do have a point!
Also, good social health shall be an important factor in maintaining concentration on your task. have things in your home, car, workplace of what you like. When you have time, try drawing pictures/results of your work, etc… Love is what motivates and motication is contagious. You might want to walk in baby steps at beginnig, this will show you results more quickly, motivates you and keep you encouraged with the task. Also your clients will build confidence in you as they can see whats happening.
I found my never ending happiness only in God. So when ever I offered prayers I felt God shall be truly accepting it only if they are fruits of my own work. So to obtain his grace or happy showers on me I want to make sure what I offer in the name of god are my own. So as doing things in the name of god is what I like, I worked more to get more to offer(donations to poor welfare is one of the offers). If you are not religious, I can suggest God could be replaced by what ever you love.
Hi,VlogOfTheMathGuy,I am glad to see your video.I had the same issue.I had been searching for ways and I stumnbled across a theory which worked for me better than anything else.
The thing that worked for me: I materialized my tasks. I mean I changed them from the abstract form in my mind and put them on the paper.Every night just before going to bed I wrote down the stuff that I need to do the next day. Ticking them off the next day with a red pen feels so good. I can’t say it changed me 100%, but it really helped. Just be obliged to write down your task list every night. When you don’t have the task list, they will fade in your mind during the day.Good luck
I could do that exercise with albert haynesworth on my back
JK!
