Exercise as if your life depends on it.

| August 2, 2011 | 25 Comments

I am convinced that commitment to daily exercise is the most important decision you can make regarding your health. I actually think that it is more important than your diet. I’ll never forget reading an email from Dr. Douglas Graham when he said to me, “Michael, exercise each day as if your life depends on it”. I took that message in the most literal sense possible. Make a commitment to yourself and to your health to do at least 30 minutes of some kind of aerobic activity every day no matter what. It will transform your life. By keeping this commitment every single day you will reaffirm the direction you are going to — towards greater health, higher energy, mental positivity, better self-image, self-respect, and self-discipline. After a while you will notice that every aspect of your life from your career to your personal relationships will remain positive. Perhaps most importantly — you will rediscover a feeling of pure joy and happiness coming from the simple, pure, natural act of moving your body. i know its entirely different in your case, but a lot of your behaviour is very similar to mine when i had an eating disorder, specifically the excercise obsession (was an obsession for me) i fully recovered about 3 years ago and now want to improve my health and sport performance by becoming fruitarian. i just find it quite daunting to go back to the whole “i must excersise no matter what” way of thinking and the guilt that comes with it. it would be so easy for me to slip back into E.D mode :(

You probably couldn’t run around in the airport these days in fear of being a terrorist!… you might have experienced that already

  4. g9g9g9 says:

I heard propaganda that exercise only added up to two years to your life. I don’t believe it.

The system rages against this lifestyle. This is why it’s so hard people to have a lifestyle like this. apparently consumers have the word in the economy though..

is exercising 2hrs a day bad if you sit 8 hrs a day? I mean thinking about it shouldn’t hurt because it’s half the day you dont move

wow thanks Michael, I honestly hadn’t looked at exercise this way. I was like ‘well I have to eat right but if I exercise every other day I’m healthy’. Thanks for changing my perspective :)

so true. i find that I have to exercise and move around a lot all day to feel good. my body just has the urge to. I work in an office setting where I’m supposed to sit down in a chair for 8 hours a day, but I can’t do it. I stand while I’m working a lot of the time, or I take frequent walks, so yea, it sucks having an office job. the only time i have to walk is during my lunch break

@trevfrank I think you’re taking that too literally, he just meant it doesn’t take any time from your day.

I have a streak going on now too! Only now I have running, biking and swimming. i feel incomplete without all 3 and I never even did an triathlon..although i feel like I have. Maybe some day? I applaud you Michael for your dedication and efforts. Hopefully this will inspire ppl to get off their lazy asses and just move for at least 30 minutes! 30 minutes out of 24 hours..that is like nothing,. Move like your life depends on it..very good line..b.c it really does. I do it for my head at this poin

  18. trevfrank says:

why does it take you 5 min to do 50 pushups? do u do 10 pushups per minute REALLY slow for added challenge?

  19. da1sinister1 says:
